icecheetahSo this year I am going to try something possibly a bit odd.
I've heard a lot about how the school system is unmanageable for teens, so I wondered: Could I, an adult, manage it now?
So I decided to do an experiment.
In my final years of high school I had five subjects and six 53 minute long periods a day, and each day I had one of those subjects for two periods (before and after lunch). So every weekday I'm going to devote four hours to different "classes" and two hours to another "class". Yeah, I rounded that up from 53 mins to make the maths easier.
The exact time I take these "classes" is flexible. There's a lot in my life, particularly in the morning, that makes having set times for these "classes" impossible.
In days I go to my job the work will count towards the 6 hours (so I don't wind up having to do "schoolwork" for 6 hours after a hard day gardening).
And my "classes" are pretty flexible too. All that matters is that I set aside those hours and fill them with some sort of work or study, and two of the hours are the same thing. Those two hours don't even have to be consecutive. If I want one of my "classes" to be cleaning one day then it will be cleaning.
Oh and daily chores do not factor into this, another reason the time is flexible.
So, in what I am cheekily calling the first "week", even though it's just the first day because this year started on a Friday, well.
I started and ended the day with drawing my Numenera character Cxemhlar Reidh (Chev-lar Ray), who is a conman, while listening to podcasts about conmen. I spent an hour each on practicing my korean in duolingo and anki, and spent an hour writing and one more composing. In that writing time I finished writing a tutorial on databending, now I need to work on publishing it.
I started around 9am (the time I normally started school) and finished around... half past 6pm! And feeling pretty good about what I've done!
Edit: Oh, and doing this once a week is my homework because I remember having quite a light homework load in highschool. Which I think I was an exception.
